The winner of Space2B’s final Money Box Campaign for 2019 was St Alban’s U13s Rugby Team.
St Albans RFC – a.k.a. The Buns – are a rugby club local to Splott and Tremorfa with their home ground since the 1970s being at Tremorfa Park.
The earliest record of the club was in September 1896, which was only seven years after The Maltings was built! Since then, the club has seen its fair share of history. In 1914, several players were enlisted into the British Armed Forces to fight in the First World War and sadly, many never returned. In 1926, the club had regained its strength and made the league final against Roath’s St Peters RFC.
Over the years, the club has taken home the Ninian Stuart Cup, the Cardiff & District Sevens Trophy, the Welsh District Cup and with 8 junior mini teams, have been granted full WRU status.
The Buns are a club dedicated to developing young talent and encouraging them to aim high within the sport. As a club, it has a hugely positive impact on the local area, by providing younger generations around Splott and Tremorfa the opportunity to take part and prosper in the nation’s favourite sport.
For this reason, we’re proud to award The Buns’ U13s team with our final Money Box Campaign draw for 2019 by purchasing much needed kit for the young team.
We hope our sponsorship helps further develop a sense of team spirit for the St Albans U13s and from there grow and go from strength to strength in their performances on the field.
“On the verge of folding last year, our U13s team didn’t look like it was going to last. We were struggling for numbers every week.
“With the help from local schools and WRU Hub officers we have gained a number of new players creating a strong squad of players.
“This side hasn’t had their own kit to help give them an identity. Up until now, they’ve been playing in passed down kits or their school kits.
“We took to social media to ask for sponsorship and were lucky enough to receive a message from Andrew at Space2B at the Maltings saying that he would like to help.
“We now have a full set of kit and the excitement from the boys when they received them was priceless. The new kit has brought them closer and also brought out their confidence.
“We would like to thank Space2B so much for the sponsorship, we couldn’t have done it without you.” – Lauren Holloway, WRU Hub Officer & St Albans RFC Team Coach (pictured right).
